Walking my dog up the last hill to our house, an SUV passed and headed down the hill with a contemporary R&B song playing. I didn't know the song but there was a distinct "Do-so-do-do-so-so-do" syncopated line ("do" and "so" as in the syllables in the Sound of Music's "Do Re Mi"). It was a very Beyonce-kind of sound with short, staccato "o-o-o..." rendering. Around that "do-so" line I heard this simple three chord progression, and all the other melody followed.
